SC says it wont permit lawyers to hold Madras HC to ransom
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain Tamil Nadu polices plea challening Madras HC decision to seek CISF security cover for itself.
The HC had sought CISF security after the local police failed to rein in lawyers holding protest inside courtrooms with their wives and children demanding Tamil to be made official language of the HC.
A bench headed by CJI-designate T S Thakur told the police that lawyers or anyone for that matter would never be allowed to hold judiciary to ransom. The sooner the lawyers take it out of their heads, the better it is for them, he said.
Justice Thakur said if the HC feels police was unable to provide security, then it was right in seeking CISF help. CISF is the first step. To protect institutions security and dignity the judiciary can go up to Army, he warned.
