NEW DELHI: Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj dared the opposition to show her one proof that she had extended favours to former IPL chief Lalit Modi, trashing Congress' demand for her resignation on the matter.
Present one note, letter or email that shows I asked the UK government to present Lalit Modi with travel papers, she told the Lok Sabha.
The minister said Congress had raked up a non-issue to stall key proceedings of the house and had done "injustice to her by refusing to hear her side of the story.
Swaraj told Parliament that her intervention with UK officials to permit that trip was extended on "humanitarian grounds.
If I had requested/recommended, then British government would have answered opposition's query saying as much. They said I didn't, Swaraj said, quoting an Economic Times report.
I never requested the British to favour Modi for travel documents. Words in such form of communication are important. Modi's wife was suffering from cancer for 17 years, her cancer relapsed and that was the only reason behind my intervention.
Swaraj said she has been coming to the House everyday to make a statement but the Opposition is not allowing her to do so.
They don't start the discussion, they just create ruckus. The facts this notice is based on are baseless and untrue...
