VP Hamid Ansari Brunei visit delayed after volcanic eruption closes Bali airport
Forced closure of the Bali International Airport has caused delay in Vice President Hamid Ansari visit to Brunei by a day. Mr Ansari who is on a five day two nation visit of Indonesia and Brunei was scheduled to leave Bali this afternoon. Disruption was due to volcanic ash from an eruption at Mt Rinjani, east of the resort island.
Quoting Ngurah Rai International Airport Authorities, a top official from Vice President secretariat said all flights have been grounded and it would remain close till 8 . 45 tomorrow morning.
He,further, said, airport authorities will review the situation this evening and accordingly further plan on the visit will be made. Meanwhile, Mr. Ansari unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Udayana University in Bali this morning and addressed a gathering of students there.
Describing education as a key to success in the 21st century, he said both India and Indonesia need to have regular exchanges of teachers, scholars and students between academic and research institutions.
An MoU was also signed between the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indonesian university in the presence of the Vice President. Earlier, The Vice President visited the world famous Tanah Lot temple.
